Texas Tech vs...

Published November 19th, 2013

This was my first time traveling outside of Lubbock to cover a Texas Tech Football game. I wish we were able to get funded in order to cover all of the away games, but I can understand that travel fees and housing is a bit expensive for a university newspaper. The Baylor vs. Texas Tech football game is held inside of the massive, recently renamed AT&T Stadium (or Jerry's World as it has come to be known. I wanted to take some photos of a behind the scenes events that occur during the actual game. It was the last football game for one of our photographers, and the second to last game for our other photographer and reporter. Shooting inside of the massive stadium built for one of America's most wealthy teams in professional sports was a humbling and sobering feeling. I never really expected that I would get this opportunity and the fact that I had the chance to feel like a professional photographer was really inspiring. Walking out onto the field and seeing the 69,000 people in attendanc ...

Austin City Limits Music Festival

Published October 7th, 2013

Just a small collection of photos mostly from my Fujifilm X20 from the Austin City Limits Music Festival on October 4-6, 2013. Since I wasn't with any media while attending this event I couldn't bring my 5D Mk. II into the park due to DLSR restrictions (even though I clearly saw some people carry in their D7000 or Rebels) but I had received the Fuji X20 as a birthday gift back in June of this year. I knew the camera was a great little 4/3 sensor but I was blown away with some of the shots I was able to get with it. Not having to lug around a huge DSLR was kind of liberating in a way and, especially at an outdoor music festival, it was nice to carry a small camera that I could pull out quickly for the entire 9 hours we spent in Zilker Park. The music festival was great and I am definitely considering buying a pass to attend next year's festival. Being around people with similar musical tastes and being able to see one of my favorite bands, Phoenix, perform only 3 feet away from me was w ...

SXSW 2013 - Austin, Texas

Published March 17th, 2013

I attended the annual music festival South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, this year without a badge or a wristband and covered what was available for the SXSW-goer under the age of 21. I kind of underestimated the amount of things a person under 21 would be able to do and I was a bit disappointed with the amount of free concerts that were strictly 21+. Receiving free tickets to a Kid Cudi, Passion Pit, and Justin Timberlake show only to find out that they were age restricted was a severely depressing moment during the week. We found our stride, and attended the SXSW Interactive sections of the week which included meeting the internet-famous Grumpy Cat, taking photobooth shots inside of the Flickr and Yahoo room, and getting a free pass to attend a panel featuring Michael Cera, Sarah Silverman, and the rest of the JASH YouTube video actors. Overall, I wish I had been 21+, not even for the various parties on 6th street, but just for the amount of free shows that people were able to atten ...

Shooting my Sister's Engagement Photos

Published December 28th, 2012

This past week, my sister asked me to take her engagement photos. I was a little nervous since I had never really done anything for a "client" and I really wanted to make sure the pictures came out awesome for her. Here's a few of the shots that I really liked, hopefully I can do more portrait work like this because I really enjoyed it!
