After graduating from Laurier, I moved to Asia and completed my MBA at the National University of Singapore.
I trekked 21 days to Mt.Everest to bring HardwareZone magazines to a man who had no electricity. (huh?) Sat on a rock flabergasted by the scale of the world (or maybe it was the lack of oxygen) and decided never to follow 'the rules' again.
Went back to Singapore, ran the Timex Triathlon, met and eventually married my amazing soulmate Alice and in 1999 founded BLUE with just 3 people in the 3rd storey of a shophouse, where you had to turn sideways to fit through the door.
Over the next 8yrs, I rode the amazing BLUE rollercoaster, growing it to today's level with over 160 ppl in Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, London & San Francisco.
In June 2007, we sold the business to the WPP Group and in August 2008 I "retired" to focus on my non-profit work through The Muskoka Foundation, which Alice and I started to leverage our experience as entrepreneurs to "Make Change Makers" in developing communities.
You can find out more about my professional side at: www.linkedin.com/in/jayshapiro
I now live in a truck (www.EcoRoamer.com) driving around the planet, one dirt road at a time; with Alice, Kurt and Maya Papaya.
