Jeff Tatay

As a conservation writer-photographer, I aspire to craft accurate visual and symbolic representations of environmental relationships within landscapes and ecosystems.

My work is committed to critically analyzing the binary opposition of culture/nature and is, for this reason, ultimately, a peace study. The metaphors of war dominate our rhetoric as we battle raging wildfires and target invasive species. I believe that we need to start thinking in terms of humankind as inseparable from nature rather than in opposition. It is partly, after all, the delineation of geographical boundaries and an Us-versus-Them mentality that leads to warlike tensions and the inability to solve problems. I believe that we can begin to solve complex problems with ecological pragmatism that serves communal interests.
