Cecil is a man of 87 years living in an assisted living home in Alabama. He asked me to come out one day when he could get dressed up in his suit for some portraits because he hadn't had any photos taken in quite some time. We started out with a few portraits with my goal being to capture photos with little bits of his life. Those close to Cecil will recognize these things in quite a few of his photos, especially the one of him sitting at the foot of his bed.
Cecil has many interesting stories to tell such as his acquaintances with Ronald Reagan and Clarke Gable during his Army years, old cars and business experiences. He now spends his time with his friends and researching stocks in search of the next big investment. Cecil has a very meticulous schedule that includes wake up time, time slated for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and time to go to bed. Between these time slots he will have the news playing on his flat screen TV, and always has a current issue of Newsweek, Money or Time magazine to read.
Cecil has always been a neat and tidy person. His shoes are always in the same place, the bed made, his next change of clothes coordinated and laid out, and he has always had his Dirt Devil handy for an unexpected mess.
I had a great time photographing Cecil, who also happens to be my grandfather.
