Carver County Fair

Published August 14th, 2013

I always look forward to entering photographs in the Carver County Fair. I've pulled down a couple champion ribbons over the past few years, which is kind of exciting. When I reviewed shots to enter this year I didn't have a huge selection to choose from. I've focused more on portraits this year, and just haven't had the opportunity to get out and shoot other things. I will make it a priority to get out more this year, because I do love it.

Baby Derek

Published November 9th, 2012

Little five-day-old Derek was gracious enough to be the subject of my first newborn session (unless you count my own kids, which I don't, because it's sooooo much easier when they're not yours). He's a lucky guy because he has a very sweet big brother, Emmett, a super cool mom and dad, and a furry older brother named Rocco who keeps close watch over him.

Before I left for their house, I did some quick research, looking for tips about lighting and settings. I decided natural light would probably be best. While searching for information, I came across a lot of funky examples of newborn and infant photo shoots. Some were almost alarming. So as we were getting ready, and Derek's mom said to me, "Can you believe some of the crazy things they do with newborns in pictures," I was somewhat relieved. Fall Guys

I did a fall mini session in early October with these three handsome young men. It was a rather chilly and windy, but sunny afternoon in Victoria, Minnesota, a bedroom community west of the Twin Cities.

Shauna is one of the first senior sessions I've done. I'm really hoping to get out to do more photo shoots this year, and senior portraits seem to be a great way to initiate some referrals. What's great about photographing clients this age is that it's hard to take a bad picture of them. They're all such handsome and pretty young men and women!

For Shauna's session, we went to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, which was full of late summer blooms, full foliage, and beautiful meadows and grasses. We went just before sundown and were able to cash in on some nice evening golden hour sunshine.

Good luck to Shauna and all of her Class of 2013 classmates!
