Little five-day-old Derek was gracious enough to be the subject of my first newborn session (unless you count my own kids, which I don't, because it's sooooo much easier when they're not yours). He's a lucky guy because he has a very sweet big brother, Emmett, a super cool mom and dad, and a furry older brother named Rocco who keeps close watch over him.
Before I left for their house, I did some quick research, looking for tips about lighting and settings. I decided natural light would probably be best. While searching for information, I came across a lot of funky examples of newborn and infant photo shoots. Some were almost alarming. So as we were getting ready, and Derek's mom said to me, "Can you believe some of the crazy things they do with newborns in pictures," I was somewhat relieved. We chatted about it, and were definitely on the same page about not wanting to pose him in a fruit bowl full of apples and pears, or try to position his head so it looked like he was resting it on his hands, or use a pumpkin top for a cap. It's a good thing too, because he wasn't sleepy at all. I don't even think he would have gone for the classic tushie in the air shot either, so we didn't even try, and just got some insanely cute pictures in his hip, eco-friendly cloth diaper.
Check out even more images of Derek on my portfolio.
Congratulations to you all!
