My name is Jess Findlay. I'm a 23 year old, professional nature photographer from Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. My interest in the natural world was sparked as a young child. I began birdwatching and hiking with my family at a very young age, throughout the wilderness of British Columbia. When I was growing up, one of my dad's favourite hobbies was photographing birds and wildlife. With his guidance and an old hand-me-down DSLR, my interest in the outdoors eventually transitioned into a love of documenting what I saw with a digital camera. Since then, I have photographed throughout the Americas with a focus on birds, wildlife and landscape scenes.
In 2011, I was awarded the International Youth Photographer of the Year Award from Nature's Best Photography. More recently, I was awarded in the 2014 BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition's Bird Category.
My time is split between the Pacific Northwest and the neotropics. I guide instructional workshops in British Columbia, alongside Connor Stefanison, and in countries like Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru, with Glenn Bartley.
