Born and raised in Kawit, Cavite, Jun Tulao has always had a passion for the arts. Turning away from a background that prepared for a medical career, his talent for the graphic arts and eye for capturing images led him to videography and video editing. He has worked as a professional video editor for ten years. Jun made the transition from video to photography in 2009 and has been hooked since then. Some of his creative influences are Joe McNally, Joel Grimes, and Scott Kelby. His photographic subjects range diversely from portraiture, body scapes, and landscapes, to fashion, events, and food. Some of his work have been featured in local periodicals and publications, including a memorable shot of the Aguinaldo Shrine’s façade that was selected to be the cover of Cavite Accumap and a photo of the 300 years Peñafrancia Celebration that was included in the National Geographic website. Jun has been a contributor for Getty Images since 2010. He has won awards in local photography contests, as well as in monthly competitions held by the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation. In 2010, Jun was elected as president of the Cavite Camera Club, one of the prestigious non-profit photography enthusiasts’ organizations in Cavite. He was awarded the TOP 4 Photographer of the Year for the FPPF Photocup in 2013. His fervor for photography springs out of a desire to randomly capture life as it unfolds, and continuously strives to refine his craft.
"In photography, the rules are just the usual practice. If you break them, you don't get punished, you just get criticized. "
