My life is all about seeking out wild, beautiful places and photographing them when the light, at its very best, reveals their true magnificence. That light may be the soft, buttery, yellow light of a sunrise over a mountain lake at dawn, the blood-red sky of a high, granite peak at sunset, or the bruised, purplish clouds of a high-country storm bearing down on a forest meadow. The challenge for me is to try and bottle just a little of the magic that I see at those moments inside my camera and bring it back out.

Each photograph holds the sights, sounds, and memories that surrounded the moment that led up to its taking. In between my adventures, I reexamine them while I am safe, dry, warm in front of my computer. These images remind me that there are so many wild places I have yet to see in the wilderness. I wonder if I am missing a moment of beautiful light that will never be repeated and that prompts me to pull my gear together and set off up a trail to some new destination sweating under a heavy pack and watching the light as it changes around me.

For some, the urge to travel consists of a desire to explore far away cities or other continents. I'll take the mountains, forests, and lonely beaches.
