While the number of bicycle users in Lisbon is very low when compared to the number of users of motorized vehicles, there is a community united by the use of bicycles as a means of transportation.
Among the cycling community, there is a strong spirit of mutual help and a sense of being at the forefront of an important social change. Cyclists self organize to support and promote cycling: cooperative bicycle repair workshops take place regularly; bicycle awarness demonstrations are organized.
The increase in bicycle usage is also seen as a market opportunity: bicycle repair and rental shops are inaugurated; bicycle repair courses are taught; bicycle-themed cafes are opened.
While the impact of cycling in everyday society is still small, cyclists aspire to share the public space on equal terms with pedestrians and motorized vehicle drivers. The future of cycling in Lisbon is being negotiated not only in city hall meetings, but everyday on the streets.

My first attempt at beauty photography was made with the precious collaboration of Raquel and Jo.

Makeup and Styling: Jo
As the name suggests, the goal was to capture beauty. I wanted the eyes to stand out and wanted to avoid unflattering shadows. For that, I've used frontal lighting (a small umbrella) to enhance colour and create small but well defined shadows. The background was lit using two large softboxes, one on each side. Photo editing (photoshop) was minimal.
