Why Black and White?

Published May 27th, 2011

I love Black and White photography because with the removal of color the essence of objects, situations, sceneries and people can become more visible. Can become more visible because it's up to you what you do with contrasts, light, shapes and lines to emphasize the essence, or what you see as the essence - no colors that will seduce the eye, only emotion that will capture the heart. If you do it right...

Hi Joel, just read your blog. I am a big fan of black and white photography. So often you can grab interesting tones and shades that are sometimes unnoticeable in a colour pic. One must really "see in black and white" before taking the shot and look for those features that will enhance your photograph and make it "speak". I always shoot in colour and in RAW before changing the image to black and white. That way you can have the best of both worlds :)
