Published April 29th, 2012

I spent a late evening photographing passing cars in black and white. No photo turned out perfect, but here are two that turned out OK and two that became unplanned bonus shots :)

The Organizer

Published April 18th, 2012

I just upgraded to Plus. Awesome felt a bit too far away, and having a portfolio is not a priority. Perhaps in the future.

I spent the last hour or so playing with the organizer, adding my photos to Sets. I like being organized, and I like how 500px displays my work. But wouldn't it be cool if the organizing into sets was clearer for people visiting my profile? Large, clear options to choose from in the form of the names of the sets, with small preview thumbnails underneath. As it looks now, people have to actually click "Sets" to see my categotizing - if they don't, they still see my messy library with all photos in one bunch :P

A photographic bikeride

Published April 18th, 2012

I’m not known for going on photography trips with the specific goal of taking photos. Instead, I usually bring my camera when doing other activities – that’s when the great situations appear when you least expect it!

Last summer I worked abroad, in Sunny beach, Bulgaria. A biking trip to a local village named Erkech – through the sunflower valley and up into the Balkan mountains – was an example of a trip not specifically intended for photography, but where it still became a central event of the day.

Here's my best shot taken from that trip (The sunflower valley), along with some other photos from the summer in Bulgaria.

It's been a while since I uploaded something new or blogged here at 500px. But having just recently discovered Alan Shapiro (check out his photos, like right now!) through Goolge+, I've been struck by inspiration. There are many talented photographers out there, but this guy takes shot that fit quite perfectly into what I like the most.

And because of that, I want to pick it up again. Therefore, more to come, keep your eyes open :)

Colors & contrasts

Published August 3rd, 2011

In my photos, I often have two distinct features that you will notice appear over and over: colors and contrasts.

The colors in my photos are often close to extreme. I like the sadness and feeling of low-color photos that hobby photographers who want to be more serious seem to take. But I’ve decided to go in the other direction. I want the photos to be eyecatching even at the first glance, without for that matter losing depths or feelings.

Colors are such a great tool to create a warm or cold atmosphere and general “beauty”, while low-color is a great way to create feelings and atmosphere on a perhaps deeper level. For some reason, I’ve come to enjoy the first one the most – and I’m sticking to it.

Here I can also add that I just love black and white photography as well! But one condition must be present: distinct contrast. I tend to darken or brighten up certain areas of my b/w photos, attempting to really make the contrasts strong in color, even when there’s no color at all presen ...

Using flashlights

Published July 31st, 2011

Today I have uploaded two photos taken in complete darkness using a flashlight to light up the object. In one case a water tap, in the other my own eye. This is a technique I experimented with a lot, and especially the eye turned out real cool, in my opinion.

In the case with the tap the location was much bigger and the object larger than the eye. A stronger flashlight was used, and you'd be amazed at what kind of cool pictures you can actually take in complete darkness using a number of flashlights and people to shine them on the object from different directions. I recommend you try it!

Old photos

Published July 28th, 2011

I just uploaded two photos from 2009. A fairly new photographer, these are some of my first photos that I have saved because I actually think they are good. I still think they are. One was featured as a broschure cover this spring.

War in Bosnia & Hercegovina

Published July 26th, 2011

Today I decided to display some of my black and white work. I'm usually more happy with my color shots, being a big fan of extreme colors and contrasts, but in some cases feelings and atmospheres are best displayed without color.

The shot "The new generation" is the one that has the most meaning to it of basically all of my photos. It was taken in Bosnia & Hercegovina, wartorn in the early 1990s, for a newspaper article.

The girl in it is smiling, and the image isn't that revealing. But the background story is that she gave her thoughts on the war for the newspaper 15 years after the war ended, representing the new generation. She has no memories from it - she was born at the end of it - but have heard the horrible stories from her parents and other adults. She's part of building the new Bosnia.

The other photo was actually a school assignment. The word was "fundersam", which is Swedish and hard to translate. Google Translate says "concerned", but that's not entirely true as "funder ...

B&W photographer Ralf Wendrich

Published July 25th, 2011

I just discovered 500px photographer Ralf Wendrich ( and his work. Considering my previous post about black and white photos with color details in them, I wanted to dedicate a post to this man!

His photos have great composition and the contrast is often very distinct between the black and white areas. No regular converts, these images are truly made to be black and white! And the color details: very clear, stylish and beautiful!

Check out his work right away if you haven't already. I'm not often directly inspired by specific photographers, but I think I've actually found someone I look up to.

Color details in black and white photos

Published July 25th, 2011

Todays upload contains of one beautiful closeup of moist grass in the morning - an image I have had as the background image on my computer for some time - and a black and white photo with a green snake in it.

The latter might be a cheap trick, keeping one colored detail when the rest is in black and white. But so what? I really love the shot, and if it looks good, then what does it matter if the means used are "cheap"?

I have experimentet a bit with this kind of editing - real simple yet effective - but not been happy with most of the results. However, this snake is the exception, and that's why I've uploaded it here as one of my best.

What do you think? Cheap trick or effective editing?

Taking photography seriously

Published July 23rd, 2011

With 500px I'm hoping to achieve one thing: taking my own photography more seriously. To take more pictures, strive to make them the best I can and being proud to show them to the world, without feeling that they're not good enough.

I will only upload my very best, not the "just good" photos. I know I'm not professional - this is mainly a hobby - but I hope to receive comments and feedback, or at least a few encouraging "likes" and maby even favorites.

And few things are as inspiring as browsing through the stunning photography of others. That's a great way to become better yourself!

Staying active on 500px

Published July 23rd, 2011

I'm considering whether I will stay active on 500px for long or not. At the moment, I love the website! The voting system, the professional level of the photographers, the simple yet effective friends- and commentsystem, and so on.

There are a ton of websites with great features. 500px lacks many of those, yet has some sort of simple appeal to it that I haven't found elsewhere.

I want to stay, I really do. And for the next few weeks, I'm planning on adding a photo or two each day. But will I actually stay here? I guess it all boils down to these three points:

- Will I get comments and votes on my photos?

- Will I be interested in blogging actively about my photos and photography in general?

- Will I continue to enjoy discovering new photos without getting bored of it?

If the answer is yes to at least two of those, I'm here to stay! Follow me (more photos coming), like my photos and read the blog - that's how you can help me stay interested in 500px. Because I really want to.
