The Sun Temple Home on Rimrock Ranch

Published November 24th, 2012

We are nearing completion of our owner built passive solar home on the western edge of the San Luis Valley. We are off grid and supply all our electricity from solar panels. This location is one of the most sunny spots on Earth. The house stores the solar heat in an insulated concrete floor of over 88 tons. The floor has 1/2 mile of radiant heat tubing with water distributing the solar gain evenly throughout the slab.

We will be transitioning to documenting the wildlife and nature scenics of the valley as we finish our long commitment to hand building the house.

Thanks. We are lucky to be in one of the most sunny spots on earth but very dry; 5-7 inch annual precipitation.
