Joris Van den Berghe
Joris Van den Berghe was born into a Belgian family which has had a strong tradition of entrepreneurship for decades, with his father and mother being the third generation owning a family business.
Born and raised in Belgium, he speaks three languages - Dutch, his mother tongue, in addition to English & French. Having been interested in aviation since childhood, he took up photography in July 2008 and bought his first DSLR, a Sony A350, at the same time. He purchased a Sony 70-400G SSM telephoto zoom lens less than one year later, and has never looked back. He also acquired an A77 with its vertical grip in March 2012.
The grandson of a Belgian WW II prisoner of war (POW), he has a keen interest in the history of the Second World War. Although he is particularly interested in general aviation, vintage aircraft and warbirds, he also enjoys photographing modern military aircraft and, if he has to, an airliner or two.
As a former editor and photographer for Belgium's largest aviation website, he has covered aviation events abroad.
He currently uses his DSLR to photograph aircraft in-flight, using the NEX-5 with 18-55mm OSS for static photographs. He uses Lowepro's new Street & Field modular carrying system and a Lowepro Toploader Pro 75 AW to cover events as well as a Pro Trekker 600 AW and a CompuTrekker AW. He carries his NEX camera in a smaller Lowepro bag, the Nova 140 AW. His digital darkroom is Aperture 3.
