Chimney Bluffs Sunset, Lake Ontario, New York

On my way north, early this week en route to London, Ontario, I spent a day scouting Chimney Bluffs State Park on the south shore of Lake Ontario. After spending most of the afternoon looking for compositions at the top of the cliffs, I decided that getting below the cliffs was the best option as the clouds were sitting to the west and south and not out across the lake. I went a few feet into the water getting a perspective of the Bluffs and breaking waves. What I really like about this image, other than the amazing cliffs on the shore and the quality of weather and light, is the way the breaking waves mimic and repeat the shapes and textures of the clouds in the sky. The leading line of the wave and sweep of the cloud bank form a great vanishing point deep in the background of the picture space giving the image an amazing amount of depth.
