João Tajra was born in 1974, in S. J. Rio Preto, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. He graduated in Law and Jouralism, and concluded Masters degrees in Gender Issues and also International Social Development, beginning his photographer carreer in 1997.
Since then, he has travaled to over 90 countries for his numerous photographic projects, some of them yet unconcluded. He focuses on social, cultural and documentary photography, using art to promote a better understanding among nations and cultures.
Among several current projects being developed are “Sombras da Capital” (Shadows in the Capital), with images of Brasilia at night; and “Qosqo” (Navel, in Quechua), a 25-year-long project about the changes in America’s longest inhabited city, Cuzco, the capital of the Inca empire.
His work has been featured in a few publications and also been exhibited in museums and galleries. He has also been featured in sites and publications such as National Geographic Online and Photo Magazine.
