Justin James Wright
Justin was born in England in 1966. After graduating college he gained significant experience with construction projects and held management roles in a variety of major prestigious projects in England. In 1994 he relocated to South East Asia and managed a number of large infrastructural engineering/construction projects in Hong Kong, Indonesia and in the Philippines.
Justin has been living and working in the Philippines since 1998, engaged by an international construction company responsible for delivering some very complex infrastructure projects.
Throughout his life Justin has been passionate about photography, particularly fine art photography. In 2006 Justin became a semi-professional photographer and focussed his attention on capturing images of “street life” in the communities close to where he worked and lived. This built a passion to shoot scenes of people and communities to show “typical life” in the backstreets of developing countries , in particular, in the Philippines. Rather than dwell on impoverished scenes, Justin’s aim is to capture the “resilience and strong emotional spirit” of people who live in challenging and difficult environments where regular employment and income is often “hand to mouth”.
In 2010, Justin became a full-time photographer in order to focus on his passion of fine art photography. He has been dedicating much of his time to capture how people live their everyday lives in the face of significant socio-economic challenges. Through this work, his intention is to help find a way to improve the lives of these people and one of the mechanisms he has developed to do this is to raise awareness and supportive interest. For example, he has recently helped to improve educational facilities in one of the communities he has documented and has achieved this through the donation of educational materials and stationary for the multitude of children who attend the school there.
Justin has successfully exhibited various works at an art exhibition organised through a partner of The British Council. This was a charity event to benefit the less fortunate children of Tondo, Manila
By invitation from Getty Images, Justin has accepted the position of "an Official Getty Contributor"
Justin has also submitted work (by invitation) to a prestigious international project to compile a book showing images of “typical life” for the less fortunate communities in various developing Countries. This book will be published and distributed worldwide.
Justin’s true passion with photography is to capture images of different “life situations” in such a way that makes the viewers of his work feel as though they could actually “walk” into the fine art prints and feel the raw emotion and ambience of the scenes because of the shear realism of how he has captured each image.
