I'm a keen photographer based in Suffolk but I commute to London daily, so my photography reflects this. For me city is work and the coast is my escape. I've always had a particular interest in Architecture, so this is reflected in my photography but living in a rural community close to the sea I cannot help but shoot seascapes and the odd landscape too. My work is predominantly black and white - but every now and again I need colour in my life - not often mind you !!! Also my work is more often than not long exposure - photography for me is an escape from my normal hectic life so spending time with shots helps me to wind down

Differing Opinions

Published August 14th, 2011

Generally when I take a photo I sort of have an idea what I'd like it to look like ultimately when I convert it to black and white. I spend some time looking at whats there and what parts can be brought out or pushed back, this can depend upon conditions but more often than not my mood.

On my recent trip to the yorkshire coast I paid a couple of visits to Whitby. I'd known of the pier for a while and its wonderful curving boardwalk. I'd already visited the day before but it was packed with people so decided to get up before the crack of dawn - I was staying in Hull - to get there before hoards of people arrived. First of all - what a cracking drive it was over Fylingdales and the Yorkshire Wolds - for those into driving at that time in the morning the roads are just ace. So I arrived adrenalin pumping.

I quickly headed towards the shot I'd wanted to take, it was clear so I spent the next hour alone getting the shot I wanted. My mood was still one of excitement and exhilaration ...
