I grew up in Mumbai and moved to England to study law at the University of Cambridge. After graduating, I got a job at a law firm in London, where I now live and work.
I was initiated into the world of photography when my parents gifted me my first digital SLR camera in 2008. Growing up, I had spent several summers playing with my dad's cameras, but my knowledge of photography was limited to snapping away with a point-and-shoot at candid moments with friends and family. Today, I can't think of many things I do with the same passion, creativity and tenacity as my photography. Back then, photography was about freezing a memory; today it's about capturing a vision.
Over the past seven years I have visited several countries in Europe and Asia and have lived in Mumbai, Cambridge, London, Singapore and Tokyo. No matter how short the trip (or how small the baggage allowance) my camera and tripod have been permanent fixtures in my travel bag. My constant journey of experimentation and discovery through the lens has taken me to places and made me meet people I would never have ordinarily seen or met. The more I immerse myself into it, the more I learn to see things from different perspectives and push myself that extra mile to get the most out of even the most seemingly insignificant everyday experiences. Often I prefer to see a scene through my viewfinder as it helps me eliminate the unnecessary elements and create a vision that I can call my own.
I respect and appreciate a wide range of photography styles, techniques and genres but my personal favourites are the candid shots in which the photographer is a fly on the wall — at times seeing the world for what it is, and at others putting his own twist on life. My own style is reflective of this and the majority of my portfolio features unposed natural shots, including landscapes, cityscapes, candid portraits, wildlife and abstract depictions of ordinary subjects.
