American photographer living in Cape Town with a passion for both art and community development. This is my attempt to merge the two passions into a higher purpose.
A photograph is "humanitarian" when it allows you to look into the world of someone who may be different from you, and to see and experience their human-ness. To take a moment to see them is to acknowledge that they exist and that they matter. Their culture, their language, their opinions and their life matters. I do not seek to exploit my subjects by making you feel sorry for them or to bring about a feeling a guilt so that you might give a few dollars towards the cause and then walk away. I seek to connect the viewer with the subjects in the photographs in order to create a sense of our human inter- connectedness. Regardless of color, or religious affiliation or socio-economic status-- we are all connected.
In the spirit of "Ubuntu" - we are all in this together and my human-ness is directly connected to your human-ness.
