My photography eclectic group of photos...from landscape and macro to street photography and HDR. While photography takes on many forms, I shoot photos sporadically depending on my mood and available subjects. Over the years my two greatest loves have been...street photography and HDR photography. Each has it's own creative energy and demands for achieving what I see... or in many cases --what I WANT to see. I shoot street photos from my heart . My gut...allowing me to tap into the rhythm of life in the city-- the give and take required to capture a person's indelible moment. Street photography allows me the freedom of relying on my intuition and discreet timing to connect with the human element... a practice in patience within the spontaneity of human life. Nature, landscape and HDR photography taps into my mind. It requires me to use methodology and logic, setting up a scene working within the parameters of natural light, composition and the elements in view. It too has it's own rhythm and pace. The natural world...with it I am able to use more time to compose, think and mentally settle into the scene I'm trying to capture. Both have a special place inside to help channel an art and style I like to call my own. I hope you appreciate what you see as much as I have enjoyed traveling, watching, waiting and experiencing the photographs I've placed here... And as with all art...By viewing these images-- You--becoming part of my process-- our paths now crossed and for that you have my gratitude. Keith Chastain 2004-2015

"Robby Higgins..."

After I shot video of my son, Kyle, and his band, the Black Rascals, during Art Hop, I threw on my 50mm to try and grab a few street shots of Mercedians...I stopped and talked with this guy named Robby Higgins. He is 55 years old, raised in this area and homeless. He told me he had worked in Merced for a company for 20 years and was laid off during the recession. He lost his home about 7 months ago along with his mother dying and has been on the streets ever since. He said he is not an addict, and stays clear of shelters since, in his opinion, they are full of thieves and drama. He told me a story of how someone had taken his teeth (dentures) one night and caught them trying to sell them for drug money. Since then, he stays pretty much to himself, but remains positive in his outlook saying, "God isn't done with me yet." With a smile on his face he shook my hand and rode off into the night on his bike. It's people and experiences like this that make me love shootin ...
