The Village / Le Village

Located in Lower West Pubnico, Nova Scotia, the Historic Acadian Village (le Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse) overlooks Pubnico Harbour. The 17-acre is a representation of traditional Acadian culture, a collection of homes and buildings that were transported to the site from nearby communities. Set around the late-1800 to early 1900s, visitors step back in time to a simpler era.

The original residents were staunch Roman Catholics, with French as a mother tongue. Not the French of Paris or Québec, but an older version of the language. Families were large, children into the double digits are not uncommon. Or families with no children at all. They earned their living from the land and the sea. Farming and fishing. Nothing was wasted. That empty flour bag may well be a pair of bloomers in a few days.
