koushik mitra

Koushik Mitra (born in 1972) is a graduate of Calcutta University in literature and then acquired diploma in Fine Arts. After years of studying Painting (Western style) in the Art College and then after years of exhibiting as a painter, he shifted to photography.

His work is in collections as diverse as those of various galleries. His art and photography has been exhibited in over 30 Academic and commercial art Galleries and art institutions including the following:

Birla Academy - Kolkata, Academy of Fine Arts - Kolkata, Lalit Kala Akademy New Delhi, Emerald Isle Art Gallery - Kolkata, Calcutta Information Center – Kolkata.

Collaboration: With Phillips de Pury New York in conjunction with the Venice Biennale. This event included works by many of the worlds photographic Luminaries.

Other exhibitions include FNAC Barcelona, Spain organized by C Photo Magazine FNAC (Spain) & London, PHOTOBIENNALE 2006 in Moscow.

His work has been included in the book "Horizon", IvoryPress, London. The book is exclusively about travel and the experience of discovery. This book contain a series of collaborations from writers and photographers include works from the legendary photographers Andreas Gursky, Jonas Bendiksen, Trent parke, Michael Ackerman Alvaro Mutis, Mario Vargas Llosa, Andre Aciman, Hans Magnus Enzensberger and Adam Zagajewski.

His work has been published a biannual hardback photography volume entitled C Photo Magazine, London.

In addition to his work as a Fine Art Photographer, his commercial works are available in numerous corporate environments.

Classically trained and always concerned with maintaining the highest level of technical excellence, Koushik has successfully transitioned from "traditional" darkroom practices and now embraces the art of fine digital printing.
