Day of the dead

Published November 2nd, 2011

So the kite festival was a bit "gloomy" at 8am since it started to rain, you won't get anything good between paper and rain, but then it stopped and the kites where lifted to their poles.

a bit of background, on november 1st in Guatemala we celebrate the "día de los muertos" aka "day of the dead", where family gathers and they usually tend the graves of their beloved (that's why you will see graveyard pictures here).

Flying kites is a tradition in two towns in Guatemala, Sumpango and Santiago both in the small department of Sacatepequez (central guatemalan highland, 2000~m above sea level). It's not a mayan tradition but it blended well with the day of the dead since according to catholic tradition it's the all saints day where most saints are closer to "earth".
