Manali-Rohtang Pass

Published August 4th, 2012

My recent trip to Manali and Rohtang Pass

Frozen

Clicked on my recent trip to Rohtang Pass,Manali. Had to wait a while for the clouds to be in the right position.
(To scale the image , there is a small tent in this photograph )

The Milky Way

After countless attempts at trying to capture the night sky with my entry level dSLR, I finally captured something worth sharing.
Took me time to point in the right direction and get the proper silhouette of the mountain.
Had to find a really dark spot with just a torch light to set up my tri pod beside the river with a companion Saint Bernard. With no hood for my lens , I had to find a direction such that i do not get a single glare or any other artificial light on my lens (which would completely ruin my shot by making the night sky almost invisible in the 20 seconds exposure to the light).
Had to set the ISO to 3200 and used Photoshop to reduce the Color Noise as much as possible.

Morning Graze

This was taken while on our way to Rohtang Pass. Stuck due to heavy traffic , had a lot of time to look around. Came across this perfect setting for a silhouette

The Shepherd Above

Barely got this shot. Had to run half a mile on frozen slippery ice and mud to catch this herd. Didnt have enough time to properly frame this image.

Frozen Desert

The dirt and mud on the snow in the early morning sun made it look like the desert sand. A spectacular view..

Taller than the Sky

Shot taken at Manali Cnetral. The only thing that looked anywhere as tall as the far away mountains where the trees infront. In the morning sunlight, they made for a great shot.

The Last Stand

The melting glacier, the snowcapped mountain , clouds and the sunset. One of my favourite Shots.

Desert Rain

The dirt and mud on the snow in the early morning sun made it look like desert sand. Had to set up my tripod on snow.
