As the cold northern winter slowly screeches to a shuddering, drawn-out, unattractive end, I find myself looking forward to the warmer weather and the macro opportunities it will bring. I purchased my macro lens very late in the season last year, so had barely a month to come to terms with what it's all about (and let me tell you - if you don't like failure, don't buy a macro lens!) However, for the six weeks or so I was able to use it, I had an absolute blast and (I think, anyway) managed to take a few pretty nice pictures.
These are some of my favourites. Taken at the very tail-end of summer, I just happened to pack my camera and macro lens on a visit to my inlaws. While strolling around their garden I wandered over to a clump of brightly coloured, weird-looking flowers (which I later found out are echinaceas, or cone-flowers) and found them absolutely crawling with butterflies and bees. Must admit, I had no idea that this place existed before a week ago. Then I found a random news article on the web (about Flickr's Explore pages, oddly enough) where the writer mentioned this site. I decided to check it out and... it's rather lovely, isn't it?
In fact, when my Flickr pro account runs out, I may choose to spend my cash on upgrading my account here instead.
