Let me introduce myself. I am Manu, a Franco-Canadian soon-to-be historian and amateur photographer. On this blog, I’ll mainly write about photography, it’s related news and some history stuff.
I’ve been into photography since I was five years old, when my dad bought my a Polaroid in the USA (we lived in France at the time). I learned to frame a picture with this little camera. Then I got a Canon 35mm, but I really started shooting with my Nikon F55m, my first SLR, bought in 2005. Quite a few rolls of film later came my first DSLR, a Nikon D50. Believe me, this little 6 Megapixels camera does marvels, and I started learning digital photography and advance editing software with it (I tried them all: Bibble, Capture One, Lightroom, Aperture and finally chose the latter, more on that in a few posts). In 2010, I got hired in a pro camera shop and bought a D90 (not a pro camera, I know, more on that later) Nikkor prime lenses. In the next posts, I’ll write about what I love about photography, the gear and software I use, photographers I like, etc.
Then, there is my other passion, History, I’ve always loved it. My favorite subject is World War II. I even did a website about it: secondeguerre.net, one of the most read French websites on the matter. I studied every aspects of this war: politics, strategies, equipment, etc. I’ll probably never stopped. I did my Master Thesis on franco-soviet relations before the war, to get a better understanding of its causes. I might write a bit about that.
Now, you could ask me: “why do you write in English? You’re French!”. True, but the Net is in English for the most part, everybody speaks English. Even French photographer working for AFP have English written blogs… In other words, I want to reach as much people as I can, and English is the common language out there, just like mathematics. I did all my studies in French, I consider myself a good French writer (history is, after all, a literary field) and love my mother tongue. But I’m not here do defend the French language, but to talk about photography, world events and other stuff on my mind, so I chose the best tool. That’s all.
I hope you’ll like my blog and photos and give my good comments!
