Mark Hooper

I am passionate about photographing the landscape. I am at my happiest outside, usually alone with my thoughts. I am constantly fascinated by the shapes and forms of natural things and the way that they are transformed by light. I am fortunate that I live in a part of the UK that has so many beautiful places on my doorstep.

Of all the images I create I am drawn to black & white. There is a quietness, a simplicity to black and white images that seem to reflect best how I feel when I’m alone in the landscape.

I make my images as complete as possible in camera. I don’t spend long on the digital editing; making only minimal adjustments to colour balance, exposure and contrast mainly in Lightroom and the Nik Software Collection. I don’t actually own a copy of Photoshop. I would rather be outside with the camera than sat in front of my computer.

I draw inspiration from many sources but I am influenced by the works of Penti Sammallahti, Michael Levin, Sebastião Salgado, Michael Kenna and Ansel Adams.

I have had images published in a number of magazines and have been commission to create images for private clients.
