For ten days the Gai Jatra Festival is celebrated all over Nepal to remember and help the people who have died within the past year to reach heaven. Bhaktapur's festival is meant to be the most colorful and lively Gai Jatra in Nepal. The stick dance procession parades through the winding, cobbled streets where each family who lost someone takes part. People standing street side, leaning out windows or occupying temples wait for the groups of boys to pass through their neighborhood banging their clubs and dancing til late evening each night.
