Dark is the new light

Published October 30th, 2013

I love dark photos, dark as in more black in the photo. I love seeing how your mind completes the image to compensate for the lack of information in the photo. To me, just a touch of information on the photo makes the photograph.

Rollei SL66E visits San Francisco MOMA

Published May 6th, 2013

I was at SF MOMA yesterday, May 5th with a couple of my photography addicted friends to see Garry Winogrand's exhibit. We had our

"weapons" of choice picked while roaming the SF, My two friends, Logan and DJ both have their M9's as their "guns". Logan was using my Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 ver II to test out if he would want to get one for close portrait photography while DJ was getting used to his M9. As for me, I have an old medium camera, my Rollei SL66E with 3 rolls of film. The film i used was a cheap film I got from for 2.89 each and I have it rated at 1600 iso as it was the bare minimum i could use to not have go under 1/15th of a second on my camera. It was a beautiful day and an even better day for photography for the three of us. Out of the 3 rolls, i managed to use only 2 and from the total of 24 frames, I managed to have around 80% keepers!

Granite Bay Outdoor Nude shoot

Published April 16th, 2013

I attended a Meetup in Sacramento last weekend and got to shoot with analog and digital cameras (Leica cameras) . My co-attendees and the host were all baffled that I was using film to shoot. Unbeknownst to them, I was using film to actually test the waters if sending my black and white C-41 35mm films to Costco then scanning it at home will fit to my workflow. You see, Costco processes C-41 films for just a little over $1.60 per roll (and if that would work, then it will at least take away the burden o me doing C-41 chemistry at home).

The result of my tests yielded a couple answers...C-41 black and white rocks...but Costco ruins your negatives with trillion scratches! Anyway, time to learn how to process C-41 film at home.

Presidio Yacht Club Shoot

Published April 10th, 2013

I Went to the Ryan Muirhead and Tanja impromptu class. It was probably the most inspiring and humbling experience of my life knowing that i was shooting with photographers that have attained a cult status level in followers. I am one of the many fans of Ryan Muirhead and my God did he not dissapoint! Meeting, talking, being coached and graciously modelling for me was truly magical for me. So, to Ryan and Tanja. I salute you and hope to be as good as a photographer as you in time...

Oh! Our model, who was just extremely lovely and patient made the whole experience sublime...
