Michael Poliza grew up in Hamburg, Germany. As a child, his talent for acting was discovered. Poliza starred in more than 100 television shows and films and was a well known actor in the Germany of that time, all the while continuing his schooling.
During his time as an exchange student in the USA, Poliza studied Computer Sciences. Back in Germany, the 23 year old Poliza founded his first IT company, importing IBM computers to Germany. At the age of 26 Poliza already had more than 100 employees, continuing to expand his business in the IT sector.
In 1997 Poliza sold his IT companies, invested in stock, and began focussing on digital media. When the dot.com crash happened, Poliza lost most of his fortune. With what was left, he bought the Starship in 1998 and – accompanied by journalists and photographers, cruised around the globe to document the state of the world’s wild locations at the turn of the millennium. The book of the voyage, containing 50% pictures taken by Michael Poliza, quickly became a bestseller.
In June 2001 Michael sold the Starship and moved to Cape Town, South Africa, spending lots of time photographing in the game reserves and nature parks of Southern Africa. The book AFRICA was launched in 2006, followed by the book EYES OVER AFRICA in 2007. Poliza moved back to Hamburg in 2009, published the book ANTARCTIC, opened a gallery and was named ambassador of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The books SOUTH AFRICA and CLASSIC AFRICA were published in 2010, KENYA in 2011.
Michael Poliza’s most recent project is called Michael Poliza Experiences. In cooperation with Germany’s # 1 in tourism, TUI Germany, Michael designs unique and exclusive travel experiences.
