Michael Riffle

I have been an avid outdoor photographer since I was 12 years old, when my grandmother gifted me with his my first camera during one of many summers spent at Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park. The oil paintings of classic landscapes, full of rich color and grand scenery, served as my early inspiration as I filled my time roaming the forest and hills surrounding the lake with my camera--trying my best to capture the richness of the sights that I had hitherto been unable to capture and share.

Although I roam a much wider area and share with many more people, those paintings of idyllic landscapes at my grandmother's house still serve as inspiration for me as I try to capture and share rich, colorful, and grand landscapes. Today, my focus is outdoor photography of the American West, including the Pacific Northwest, Colorado Plateau, and on down to the Desert Southwest. Based in Seattle, I am most often found in Mt. Rainier National Park, North Cascades National Park, and Olympic National Park. Olympic National Park... where Lake Crescent is still my favorite subject and where my grandmother's old house is still my refuge.
