Quiet Time in a Busy National Park

This panorama was taken mid-morning in Zion National Park in late July. At this time of year, the main section of the park (the Virgin river canyon) is full of visitors and access is only by park tram; private vehicles are not allowed. But in the nearly-ignored Kolob Canyons section to the North, it is still peaceful and quiet. We got to the park at 8:00 AM, when the gates opened and were the first into the park. We drove a few miles to the start of several hiking trails and took this short hike above the canyon. In a couple of hours, we saw only one other couple along this trail and less than ten cars throughout the park.
