Mikko Haapasaari

Mikko Haapasaari paints the scenery with his camera. Haapasaari uses his camera brushlike and channels different feelings with his picturesque wildlife photos. The puritanic photographers main instrument is camera: he seizes the beauty of the wilderness on that moment – nothing is added by photo manipulation. The self-taught photographer started taking pictures in the 2000’s but has progressed rapidly and has created his own distinctive, artistic means of expression. The rhythm of Haapasaari's pictures is a mixture of abstract details, movement, lights and hues. His photographic art leaves room for spectators to discover things with their own imagination. "With pictures, you can channel something indescribable by words, even though the interpretation always remains personal. Every feeling is unique." In the 2011 National History Museum's Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest Haapasaari qualified to semi-finals with two pictures. This was his first time to participate. In addition to wildlife, Mikko photographs portraits and events. ”Mikko's landscape pictures are fantastic. Our living room holds a 1.8 metre wide painting made from one of his pictures, ”Trust”. Daily I marvel at its depth and picturesque feeling. Highly recommended.” -Jose Ahonen
