Cityscape Gallery Project - Invited Artist by P...

Published November 28th, 2013

I am very proud to have been invited as a photographer for a Cityscape gallery project for a client's house in South Kensington in the United Kingdom. Photohub UK put out a call a while back asking photographers to submit images but personally contacted me after finding my image on the web. Only 5 photographers in total were selected and my photo of lightning over the Johannesburg Skyline made the cut and now hangs proudly in this clients home.

The write up from follows:

Last week James and Installation Manager Robin travelled to Kensington to complete the framed cityscape project that we called for photographic submissions on a few weeks ago

We received some stunning photography from all over the world which hugely impressed James. Our client selected photographs comprising of a typical Johannesburg thunderstorm, a canal view over Hotel Europe Amsterdam, a nightscape over the Red Square Moscow, A long exposure of the London Eye, Ravello on the Amalfi Coast and New Years ...

African Cosmos TimeLapse / TimeScape Video - Wi...

Published June 21st, 2012

Every Winter Solstice in South Africa for the last 7 years I have braved the cold evenings outside capturing the night skies. Last night I went for a full 12 hours of photography starting at dusk and finishing at dawn to capture the 2012 Winter Solstice from Southern Africa.

I had visualized this timelapse in my head for some time and it turned out beyond my expectations making this a very memorable Winter Equinox for me. In between my camera and battery checks in the wee hours of this morning, I did manage to sneak a few hours of interrupted sleep as the Sun made it's final move across the equatorial line. This morning I had several thousand images to deal with and process before I could complete this timescape of the African Cosmos.

So we are now officially in Winter in South Africa and we can start adding a few seconds each day as our days get slightly longer and as we move towards the Spring and Summer Equinoxes.

Actual construction of the final timescape took me several hours ...

Fujifilm Getaway Wildlife Photography Awards 2011

Published November 24th, 2011

Greetings friends and readers, yesterday I received some really great news regarding the Fujifilm Getaway Wildlife Photography Awards 2011. My image “At the mercy of men” of a lone Rhinoceros in black and white was the overall winner of the Animal General category of this year’s competition. For several years this has remained a rather tough category to crack through but this year the judges saw something that really caught their eye and I am elated at being chosen as the winner for this category.

In addition I received First Runner Up in the same category with another image of mine “Lone Jackal on Etosha Pan” which is another low key monochrome image taken in Etosha earlier this year.

I was also chosen as winner of the Landscapes and Plants category for a second year running with my image “Deadvlei Sunrise” taken in the iconic and world famous dead pan nestled in the tall red sand dunes of Namibia.

Last but not least, my image “Rush Hour” of a wildebeest migration in the Maasai Mar ...
