Justin Mott

I grew up in Rhode Island on Appleseed Drive surround by apple orchards and even though my last name is Mott I am unfortunately not related to the apple juice titan. I studied journalism at SF State University but a year before I was set to graduate I took a trip to SE Asia and fell in love with the region and settled in Vietnam. I hate and love taking pictures of conical hats, depends on the day. I never returned to school but I did once write an essay on the current state of photojournalism for Harvard’s Nieman Reports so I consider myself an Ivy Leaguer.
My claim to fame is that currently if you Google the words “Cocky Photographer”, my name pops up number 1, basically making me the cockiest photographer in the world. Don't worry, I'm not cocky and consider myself very easy to work with. The irony is that I wrote a blog poking fun at what is cocky in the world of photography(such as scarves and one-named photographers) and it generated loads of hits after Aphotoeditor mentioned it. I got my first big break in photography working on a series about the global food supply for The New York Times and I’ve been a frequent contributor for them in this region ever since.
