Mike Perry

I'm Mike Perry, I'm a 27 year old freelance photographer from the Sacramento, California area. Photography has been my main hobby now since getting my 1st dSLR in 2008, and it has enabled me to see the world in ways I would never have thought possible before. I'm self-taught and have been a Getty images contributor for the past two years. Besides taking pictures in the Sacramento area, I really enjoy taking small trips to San Francisco, the Sierra and elsewhere to try and capture familiar landmarks and time-appropriate themes in interesting light and weather conditions. My photographic passions are cityscapes, night photography, landscapes, severe weather, architecture, and interiors but I also enjoy event photography and occasionally delve into street and portrait work. As a Geography graduate from Cal State University Sacramento, I believe the scene in front of the lens not only offers the chance to see different viewpoints of our world and it's changing environments, but also the opportunity to analyze, observe and interpolate our physical and social world. I just recently got back from a 2 day trip to the Bishop area to check out some fall foliage in the Central Sierra. After becoming disheartened by conflicting reports on whether the fall colors were good or not after the first snow storm of the season earlier in the month, I decided to just go ahead and see the conditions for myself. Despite leaving late and encountering 2 constructions delays (one on Hwy. 89 in Christmas Valley, and one on Hwy. 395 just north of Bridgeport), I was able to make it first to Conway summit and then to the June Lake Loop before sunset. The fall colors at both places were stunning even though the lighting was difficult in both places at those particular times. I wandered around the Silver Lake area, just off the June Lake Loop, for about 2 hours. This was my second time to visit the area, so I figured it was best to better familiarize myself with the area for the next time I visit. Silver Lake and the reflections looking across the lake ...
