Zeiss Distagon ZE 35mm F1.4 lens

Published November 24th, 2013

I purchased the Zeiss 35mm F1.4 lens as a low light walk around lens I could take hand held shots with in low light. I was initially shocked at the pronounced chromatic aberration produced by wider aperture settings in the night shots. I was happy with the images obtained in daylight situations. I decided to keep the lens because the images produced with shallow depth of field and out-of-focus areas were wonderful. With some more practice, I have been able to take good hand-held night images with aperture set between F1.4 and F2.8. This lens has proven tack-sharp at 7.1 and above in night landscapes when a tripod is used. The chromatic aberration which was present at F1.4 is gone at F7.1. Altogether, I could not be more pleased with the Zeiss 35mm F1.4.
