Niels Erik Pedersen (nephotography.dk)
I'm an autodidact Copenhagen based freelance photographer. It is an important relief valve from my professional work as a program manager in the IT business.
Photography has faithfully followed me since the early 80’s, since I as a big lad often “borrowed” my father’s beloved Leica M2 and meticulous removed both film and traces before putting it back into his camera bag.
As a photographer, I'm drawn to tell about people. Both as deep personal portraits and portraits of people found in the urban environment. Especially the ‘weak souls of the streets’ have my great sympathy. And elderly people, that by their eyes, grooves and furrows are witnesses stories from a long life.
Urban environments in Denmark and around the world us are an inexhaustible source to me for discovery. Here moods are captured into photographs in which humanity in most cases take a central position.
I also likes to sit still – observing and be enriched by human diversity, hence letting this turn into evocative photographs. I also adores capturing simplistic images of the world around us, such as architecture and abstract. Perhaps as a natural counterweight to all the other photographs that are about people.
I have never considered myself a dedicated landscape photographer, nor am I specifically looking for it. But in the right light I cannot let it pass. Therefore, I have over the years seen landscape photographs grow significantly in my back catalog.
I have great passion for monochrome expressions with cinematic origin. Expression and mood are easier for meto convey without disturbing them by color.
