Early Morning Light

Published December 20th, 2011

There is something much more beautiful and subtle about the golden hour in the morning compared to the golden hour in the evening. I just love that feeling of being up, and in the middle of nowhere before most people are even awake, maybe its just a personal attachment that makes my morning photos seem better to me!

Learning curve!

Published November 19th, 2011

Went out photographing dirt jumping today, never photo'd dirt before, so a lot of new stuff to learn about angles, positions, lighting etc! The riders were seriously good, so I got some nice tricks to snap, but its seriously hard trying to get clean shots when your flash only syncs to 250th of a second shutter speed, but after a bit of practice, I think I got some nice tracking shots in the end, I'll stick them up on this post a bit later on when I've had something to eat, until then, a couple of the better ones are on my 'Photos' page! Hope you like them,

Cheers, Olly

Don't you just love it when...

Published November 15th, 2011

You watch a film, or see a photo, or meet someone, and then just feel inspired from your core outwards. I've just watched a documentary called "I believe I can fly - Flight of the frenchies" about slacklining/highlining and base jumping. Sure, that topics not everyones cup of tea, I've never done either and doubt I'll have the chance to, but it made my heart stop, made me shout out, and made me understand the people involved.

Go watch the trailer and download it here, its the best 4 Euros 90 you'll ever spend, if you can find something else this good for 4.90, leave me a comment, I want to know! Haha, heres the link, followed by some screencaps to get you hungry!

Tired...

Published November 11th, 2011

Yet again, awake until the early hours, and deciding to blog a little... but only a really really really little bit. I'm off on a photoshoot tomorrow, just been designing my new website for a business I'm starting with an awesome photographer and good mate, and other than that its all uni work, beer, food and doing a lot more laundry than I expected! Might write up a post if I get any good shots tomorrow! Here's the webpage intro... the friend I'm working with designed the logo because he's frankly a lot better than me! haha

Late Nights, Early Mornings, and New Gear!

Published October 24th, 2011

University has officially destroyed my body clock, I don't even start to feel tired until about 4am, hence it being quarter past two and me deciding its an awesome time to write up a blog post! Expect a bit more activity on here from now on!

First off, university is great, the course is dragging a little, but the people I've met are amazing. I know, I know, it sounds like every quote you see in adverts from universities trying to draw people in, but its true. I'm on the verge of starting a photo and video promotional company with a friend to make some beer money, and I have such a solid group of mates, plus my flatmates are all really really sound!

Second off, new gear! I might have gone ahead and dipped into my savings for a new lens, sick and tired of being limited to shooting with my 50mm, or suffering soft focus and daylight shooting only, I went for the canon 70-200 2.8L. Yes, I'm really quite broke right now, and no, I don't regret it! The low light is insane, and stopped in to ...

The Forest of Dean: Mountain Biking

Published August 8th, 2011

Well, yesterday was... eventful? I went up the forest of dean with my brother to go mountain biking, and mainly so I could meet up with a coupla mates, ride the new XC trail and take photos whilst he was DHing.

First off, the flash triggers didn't work properly, something was jibbing about and we couldn't figure it out for the life of us, so we had hugely inconsistent flash setups, with two flashes. One would go off, then they'd both go off, then one would turn itself up and blind the shot etc etc, eventually I managed to drag a few acceptable shots out of it, and we rode the whole new trail which was frankly awesome, we even cycled halfway back to the top to do the final XC decent again because it was so much fun.

Now it gets good. My bro and I live an hour and maybe a quarter away from FOD. It took us a casual 9 hours to get home, leaving at 6 and arriving at 3am. Turns out he crashed biking earlier in the day (pretty damned hard, dunno how he was walking, let along ho ...

Well hello there!

Published June 6th, 2011

I really should be getting on with college work right now, so I'll keep this short! I was just shown this site by a friend (Paul Edwards, he's got a page with some breathtaking photos just here with his brother: http://500px.com/PaulRyanEdwards ) and seeing as I've been looking for somewhere solid to blog and publish my photography work for some time, its perfect! Expect a load of extreme sports (mainly mountain biking) and wildlife/nature photography, ta for now
