so, i'm thinking i can't call myself a newbie any longer ... in june it will be three years since i picked up my rebel and i've certainly shot thousands of photos since then ... some of them pretty good, others, well, not so much.

but i do know more about the technology, and more about the softwares involved, and the plugins and the accessories. i look like i know what i'm doing when i'm out shooting ... so, when do i make the transition in my head to calling myself a photographer??

hmmm ...

the first year

one year ago today, as i was surfing around on the computer, i wound up on petfinders and was looking at all the beautiful dogs and puppies that needed homes ... now, i didn't need a dog, we had sasha the chihuahua and bear the terrier to keep our canine needs satisfied, but just when i was about to close the browser ... pow!!! ... there he was ... the cutest little puppy face ever ... 8 weeks old, one of a litter of nine and one of only two males left for adoption ...

off i went to apple valley (a mere 132 miles away from home) to claim this beautiful boy!!!

his health issues have been numerous and costly in terms of worry and cash ... but what joy he has brought to the whole family ... life hasn't been the same and i hope it stays this way for many years to come!!! happy one year anniversary sam!!!

it always comes back to sam

i really love my camera(s) ... i have two now a canon rebel xsi and a canon 40d ...

the thing is, i keep going for the rebel ... it's like a security blanket, photographically speaking, of course. i learned all the basics on it, i know where all the buttons are and what they do ... it's a lighter body ... etc., etc., etc. so i keep coming back to my rebel ...

it's the same way with sam ... whenever i just can't get inspired to push myself out the door to shoot something that may be really cool or interesting, i just have to look to my left or my right, and there is sam ... my trusty furry friend! i know how to make him look at the camera, and i know where to place him in the room ... etc. etc. etc.

it's time to stretch ... time to take the 40d out of the house and find the buttons and set the settings and capture some really cool and interesting stuff ...

but for today ...

so even if you're a grandmother, and you're blessed to have your own mother still here on this mortal plane, it is possible to revert back to being a kid again and just enjoying being in the family home, with relics of your past all around you and to go to the amusement park of your childhood and just feel good ... no worries, no cares, no aches and pains ... just unadulterated peace ... i have had such a day!

the first day of the rest ...

Published July 13th, 2011

my first 500px post ... feeling pretty good about being on this site, side by side and page to page with some amazing photographic talent from all over the world ... it's easy to get lost in all the images going from subject to subject and category to category ... checking my images against the standards set by the others i admire so much.

the nice thing i come away with is that i've come so far since i first picked up my canon rebel just about two years ago and am still passionate about the process and the challenge of learning more and stretching myself further. my photos make me happy and sometimes they make others happy. what's not to love?

i have new friends who are photographers and photographers who are an inspiration to me ... i look at the world a little bit differently and appreciate more of my experiences each day ...

this is all good ... life is good ...
