Over twenty-five years ago, I started working as an outdoor adventure leader. At the age of forty, I returned to Southern Oregon University (SOU) where I earned Bachelor of Science degrees in anthropology and psychology as well as a certificate in Native American Studies (2012). My undergraduate studies were focused on "human development" across multiple meanings (e.g., psychological, cultural, worldviews), and I continue to use a "developmental" or constructivist view on how we create our world and how our world creates us.
In 2013, I entered a Masters in Mental Health Counseling at SOU, and I did so with the intentions of integrating a certificate in Ecopsychology from Lewis & Clark College (Portland, OR), but this did not pan out. The short story is that I couldn't quite make the Ecopsychology certificate work - financial reasons - and then I was left to face the "cultural encapsulation" of mainstream psychology and counseling; I just couldn't swallow it, and my dropping out of the Mental Health pathway led me to CIIS.
In May of 2017, I graduated from California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) with a MA in Transformative Leadership. I am of Norwegian, German, and British decent, and lived on the west coast - from Seattle to Los Angles - for most of my life. I currently reside in Ashland, Oregon, with my partner Angelah, who is Filipina-American and also a graduate of the MA in Transformative Leadership at CIIS. In 2016, I was hired to teach Adventure Therapy at SOU, and I'm currently creating a career in teaching Transformative Leadership in academia as well as in the private sector. My inquiry is: How is an ecological consciousness nurtured through experiential education? How can transformative leadership be applied in helping bring this type of experiential education into normalcy?
My areas of inquiry are: Transformative Leadership, Spiritual Ecology, Ecological Consciousness, and Transformative & Liberatory Pedagogies.
