Patrick McDonald

I am constantly in search of the illusive convergence of light, color and form that will result in a truly unique photograph. Often, the lighting conditions that existed when the image was made were fleeting moments, perhaps lasting only seconds. When someone asks: "Did it really look like this?", I know that I have created a successful image. I have adopted a slow, methodical approach to photography through many years of shooting exclusively with a 4x5 view camera. I now shoot with a D810 and have an all digital workflow. I try to anticipate the light, learn how it moves, and have the patience to wait for it. I hope that my images convey some of the magic and beauty that I have experienced on our amazing planet.

I have worked as a print maker for Hance Partners Professional Darkroom, where I created fine-art color Ilfochrome/Cibachrome prints for some of the top landscape photographers in the country. I also worked as photographer and digital imaging technician at Northern Arizona University for several years. Feel free to email or facebook if you want to chat or go out shooting.
