Austfonna is an ice cap located on Nordaustlandet in the Svalbard archipelago in Norway.
With a glacier front of 200 km long, Austfonna is one of the world's largest icecaps. The thickness of ice of Austfonna is of more than 560 m. A great part of the base is under the sea level, just like in Greenland and in Antarctica.
During short Arctic summers, glacial water can be seen cascading out of the ice walls creating a visual spectacle.
