Birgi is a pretty subdistrict of Ödemiş which is a county of Izmir.
This fabulous town that has a population of 3000 citizens is located on the hillside of a mountain named Bozdağ (2150m).
The first Settlement in Birgi is presumed to extend back to 3000 B.C. In this region, several traces from the antique town 'Hypaiapa' are found. After the sovereignty of Lydia-Persia-Pergamum-Rome, Birgi and its outskirts has been named as Pyrgion' during the Byzantium period.
It was named Birgi after the Turks captured it in the 14th century.
Birgi is listed on the World Cultural Heritage list and contains fine examples of traditional Turkish architecture.
