Here's another shot from a day in Olympic National Park. We were heading back to the car as the sun broke over a nearby ridge, illuminating a valley of mist and sending light rays beaming through the forest. The sun even cast a full circle rainbow.

A few steps further around the bend, we came upon a herd (15-25) of Roosevelt Elk scattered on both sides of the trail. They're only found in the Olympics and they're larger than the elk typically seen in the cascades. We had a little freak-out moment as we realized they weren't going to be moving aside for us and if they panicked, we could get trampled. So we stayed close to a huge tree until they caught our scent and bolted up the hill. The ground echoed from their hoof falls like it does when trains roll by. Wow!
