Lake Palu' has the largest basin of the entire area of the Valmalenco and it originated from the erosion of the glaciers, even though work has recently been done to suit it to the function of water tank for the Lanzada hydroelectric energy plant. It is situated 1921 m above sea level between Mount Motta and Sasso Nero in a very enchanting natural environment.
The beauty of the landscape combines with the possibility of fishing in its waters and skiing in the vicinity thanks to the numerous ski-lifts in the area making it a tourist attraction. Among these lifts, the Chiesa-Alpe Palu' cableway taking from the village directly to the lake merits a special mention. The Lake Palu' Refuge is on the shores of this picturesque body of water and nearby there is a cross-country skiing trail and an easy mountain path that allows going around the entire perimeter of the lake. The tradition of the "Christ of the Abyss" is particularly curious; this is a statue that at the beginning of summer, with a ceremony attended by many people, is placed in the clear waters of the lake, from which it is then taken away at the end of the summer.
