This is the courtyard inside the Palazzo Comunale of San Gimignano, built in 1288. The town of San Gimignano, near Siena in Tuscany represents one of the best preserved examples of medieval architecture in Italy. Its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A very busy spot during the day, before sunrise I was the only one around. I took the opportunity to temporarily hide behind the pictured staircase a (heavy!) billboard that had nothing in common with the medieval surroundings.
