Is she Buying A Stairway to Heaven at grooveshark.com
Palolem is the first major beach on the southern end of the state of Goa and it is by far the biggest hangout for a large population of discerning back packers and travelers. There are beaches aplenty in Goa but Palolem has a delicious curve and almost a bay area formed by the ceaseless pounding of the surf on the land mass.
The comparative seclusion of the place is its charm. Most visitors take up residences in the small shacks made of bamboo and wood that spring up during the winter season. There are some stone and mortar structures and Palolem Beach Resort is one of them in the middle of the bay.
This place circa 2010 reminds you of what Calangute was in the 70s and the 80s. The flower children who had seen it all and done it all were just wilting and waning and wearily going back to where they came from, back to responsibility and work. The great tourist explosion happened then. Fanned by the wild tales of the hippies and the emerging travel literature, the holiday makers from France to Germany to South Africa started arriving on the tail coats of the stories of the fabulous beaches, the buzzing bazzarrs and the availibility of psychotropic nirvana
Now all kinds of people from the working classes of lower end England to the gaping villager from the Indian mainland arrive in flight charters and chartered buses. Calangute and Baga are subsumed in that commercial hedonism of every wannabe tourist.
Pallolem is quiet and peaceful. The beaches clean. The waters gentle and inviting. The food is good , the sun is hot and night time ridden with buzzing music of the electronic genre and the mosquitoes. So things are good, but you already hear the clucking disapproval of the regulars bemoaning the arrival of the newer hordes every day.
Life is a full circle. Enjoy it while you can.
