I (carefully) worked my way in, hoping he’d allow me to get a nice shot. Fortunately, the temps were still cool from the night before and he was a bit sluggish. I quickly started looking at different compostions and decided a frontal / three quarter view was probably my best bet.
I maneuvered the tripod into place and got in just about as close as my lens would allow. The extreme magnification allowed only a tiny fraction to actually be sharp in any one frame, so I took a series of 16 different shots – each at different focus points down his body – then used software to blend them into a single sharp photo.
Gotta love digital!
